COMPETING IN BODYBUILDING /FIGURE/ PHYSIQUE /BIKINI: LET'S TALK ABOUT IT!!

Competing In Bodybuilding/Figure/Physique/Bikini/Fitness: Let's Talk About It!!

If you have a passion for fitness, working out, eating well coupled with a desire and goal to compete, read this.  You only live once, so go for it!!  I have trained numerous women for fitness competitions and it is a journey you will never forget.  It is an experience that will teach you so much about yourself.  In order to compete it takes passion, dedication, motivation and complete commitment.  The reality is you will never know how hard it really is for competitors to get to stage until you have gone through the process yourself.

Breanne_Seward_active_body_nutrition

If you are an outsider looking in, you can see that competitors work really hard!  When you do it yourself you realize it takes complete focus and that only you can do the work.  Having an excellent coach really helps.  Coaches are there to support you through the obvious things like your workout plans, cardio plans, workout supplement plans and such.  Also to train you on posing and presentation and most important to be your cheerleader.  That being said, a coach is not your daily therapist.  I say this because to do a competition you should have such intrinsic motivation that you WANT to do your workouts and you WANT to eat according to your goals because you WANT to do the very best you can do.  Your coach will always want you to succeed but at the end of the day you have to want to do the work.

When I watch competitions it is very obvious who has done the work.  One of the first things you will notice is who has practiced posing because they will stand out on stage right away catching your attention.  Confidence will ooze out of them.  They will be on stage looking natural, polished and graceful.

Some tips for the ladies, make sure you hire a great makeup artist who is well versed in doing amazing stage makeup and hair.  FYI: sometimes with hair less is more.  I see some crazy up do's or off the top curls like curly sue and it takes away from the total package.  If you’re not sure try some hair do’s before show day with your suit on and see what works for you.  Ensure your suit fits perfect.  I have seen some really saggy bottoms and this does not help in showing off your glutes and hamstrings.  Please don't pick white for suit fabric, yes it pops on stage but when you are full of stage tan it can look super dirty, opt for gem stones.  In addition, smile, even if you’re a bodybuilder and are trying to pose as hard as it can be, please smile.

Start today, tomorrow never comes.  You only live once.  Make your dreams a reality.

    Feeling overweight and tired

Feeling overweight and tired?  Start today, tomorrow never comes.

Think of it as a lifestyle not a diet.  This lifestyle change has to start at home and needs to be more than just about weight loss. It is about your health and wellness.  Start thinking about your health as the most important thing in life rather than a trash bag that you fill with whatever food you can get your hands on when you’re hungry.  Be prepared, be organized and you will see your whole life change.

This is what I preach to all my clients and make it a family affair.  Just like adults, children need to be eating well and exercising too.  Not just that but you and your family have to take vitamins such as multivitamins, probiotics and greens.

Today's food is full of preservatives, fillers, herbicides and pesticides.  Let me give you an example that may surprise you.  Only 30% of nutrients in vegetables which are the healthiest food we can eat are absorbed with eating.  Running vegetables through a blender releases 80% of their nutrient absorption.  This is why it's a great idea to juice your vegetables so you actually retrieve the highest benefit from the food.  Make this fun for the kids and get them on board.  Sometimes life is busy and we don’t have time.  Keep some organic greens like EON's Organic Greens Superfood that you can grab and go, no prep time needed no excuses! You can pick this product up at any of the Active Body supplement and nutrition stores in Vancouver, Lower Mainland, Prince George or Alberta.

Going to the grocery store, number one rule - Never go on an empty stomach and try to stay on the perimeter of the store.  When you are hungry you will buy convenience food that is full of preservatives and always remember the outer aisles are where you will find the produce, meats and dairy items, all the healthy stuff.  Keep it simple; buy fresh organic fruit, vegetables, lean meats and fish and eggs.  If the food has 1 ingredient it is most likely a safe bet.  If it comes in a box with more than 1 ingredient it’s a NO!  Keep food simple, fresh, organic and nutrient rich.

Make every day an active day.  Yes every day!  There is no reason you can't get out for a walk.  Yes, it can be that simple.  We are all at different fitness levels but if you’re not yet active, please get outside breath the fresh air, clear your mind, de-stress your entire self. It's the simplest things in life that can make the biggest difference.

Stay hydrated- drink plenty of water and try herbal tea.  You will love your new lifestyle!

    XOXO

  • Feeling overweight and tired - by Breanne Seward

    BreanneSeward_blog_ActiveBodyNutrition

    Holiday Season, No Excuse!

    Breanne_Seward_Active_Body_Nutrition

The Holiday Season is fast approaching!  Don't let this be an excuse to not get your workouts in.  Even if you only have 30 minutes to workout at home, do a circuit.

Quick Fat Burning Holiday Full Body Circuit: Repeat 3 times from the top.

    1. Squat Shoulder Press Combination x 15 reps

    2. Jump Squats x 15 reps

    3. 2 arm dumbbell bent over rows x 15 reps

    4. Side Lunges on the spot x 20 reps

    5. Walkouts with a push up x 8 reps

    6. Bicycle Crunches x 30 reps

    7. Glute Kickbacks x 20 per leg

    8. Side Planks x 1 minute per side

Don't derail your diet!  Here are 5 tips to help you stay in shape through the Holiday season.

    1. Drink lots of water!  Stay hydrated throughout the day to avoid wanting to eat when your body is just dehydrated.

    2. Eat every 2.5-3 hours and keep meals small in size.  Never eat off a large plate, always use a small plate.

    3. Eat your veggies.  Load up on fiber, this will help you stay lean and satisfied.

    4. Always have a snack on hand.  Whenever I leave the house I have a few things in my purse.

    Examples:

A- a small snack bag packed with 1/4 cup of nuts

B-rice cakes with 1 tbsp almond butter

C- a scoop of isolate whey protein powder in a shaker cup

    5. Take your fat burning supplements!  My favorites are:

A- Lorna smart shake with CLA

      B- SD Pharmaceuticals Green Tea

      C- Kaizen Burn

      D-PhD Pharma Greens

      E-Progressive HCP 70 Probiotic

    Holiday Season, No Excuse!

    Breanne_Seward_Active_Body_Nutrition

The Holiday Season is fast approaching!  Don't let this be an excuse to not get your workouts in.  Even if you only have 30 minutes to workout at home, do a circuit.

Quick Fat Burning Holiday Full Body Circuit: Repeat 3 times from the top.

    1. Squat Shoulder Press Combination x 15 reps

    2. Jump Squats x 15 reps

    3. 2 arm dumbbell bent over rows x 15 reps

    4. Side Lunges on the spot x 20 reps

    5. Walkouts with a push up x 8 reps

    6. Bicycle Crunches x 30 reps

    7. Glute Kickbacks x 20 per leg

    8. Side Planks x 1 minute per side

Don't derail your diet!  Here are 5 tips to help you stay in shape through the Holiday season.

    1. Drink lots of water!  Stay hydrated throughout the day to avoid wanting to eat when your body is just dehydrated.

    2. Eat every 2.5-3 hours and keep meals small in size.  Never eat off a large plate, always use a small plate.

    3. Eat your veggies.  Load up on fiber, this will help you stay lean and satisfied.

    4. Always have a snack on hand.  Whenever I leave the house I have a few things in my purse.

    Examples:

A- a small snack bag packed with 1/4 cup of nuts

B-rice cakes with 1 tbsp almond butter

C- a scoop of isolate whey protein powder in a shaker cup

    5. Take your fat burning supplements!  My favorites are:

A- Lorna smart shake with CLA

      B- SD Pharmaceuticals Green Tea

      C- Kaizen Burn

      D-PhD Pharma Greens

      E-Progressive HCP 70 Probiotic

Thanks for reading, see you next month!
